The Instructional Swim program is for individuals who have a physical or visual disability that are new to swimming. Athletes will be assigned one-on-one to a volunteer swim instructor. Floatation devices will not be used in the teaching progression.

The Independent Swim program is designed for swimmers who are able to swim at least 50 meters consecutively, can be completely independent while in the water (no volunteer or coach assistance needed). Workouts are provided to increase endurance, strength and speed. Instruction is given to fine tune technique. Recreational swimmers who are looking to improve their technique or stroke are welcome.

Overview

Competitive and learn-to-swim programs are available for GLASA athletes. Many athletes strive to swim with a club or high school, and the GLASA program helps to fulfill that desire.

Instructional sessions are held in Lake Forest on Sundays (session times vary from 4:00-6:00pm) and additional sessions for instructional swim on Thursday evenings at Fountain View Rec Center in Carol Stream.

Independent Swim sessions are held in Lake Forest on Sundays from 6:00-7:00pm

How to Engage: 
The competitive swim program is designed for athletes who can swim at least 50 meters consecutively and can be completely independent while in the water without volunteer or coach assistance needed.

The learn-to-swim program is for individuals age 8+ who have a physical or visual disability that are new to swimming, Athletes will have a one-on-one volunteer swim instructor.

A GLASA Membership is required for all individuals who would like to participate in GLASA's Weekly Programs. Scholarships are available as GLASA will never turn anyone away due to financial hardship. Please contact GLASA if you are in need of a scholarship or would like to try out GLASA's programs with 1 free month.
